EDF Energy Refer a Friend & Promo Code — £50 account credit
A free £50 off the energy bill for any home moving to EDF, and £75 for referrals made by 6 October 2026. It works with every EDF tariff and suits households new to EDF in the last 12 months.
£50 of credit on your new EDF account when you move your home's gas or electricity to EDF through the referral link, and £75 if you are referred between 14 September and 6 October 2026. EDF applies it about four weeks after you join, once the switch is through and your first payment has cleared. No code is typed: the link carries the referral to EDF's quote page.
EDF Energy refer a friend link: https://topreferrals.co.uk/go/edf-energy. Move your home's gas or electricity to EDF through it and EDF puts £50 of credit on your new account, or £75 if you are referred between 14 September and 6 October 2026. Nothing to type: the referral rides on the link to EDF's quote page. Credit lands about four weeks after the switch, once your first payment clears. Covers fixed, tracker, variable and time-of-use tariffs, gas or electricity or both. Checked against EDF's own Refer a Friend page and terms on 1 October 2026.
How the EDF Energy referral code works
- Open https://topreferrals.co.uk/go/edf-energy, which takes you to EDF's own quote page with the referral built in.
- Put in your postcode and address, then pick any EDF tariff for gas, electricity or both.
- Finish the sign-up on edfenergy.com; EDF sorts the switch date with your current supplier.
- Pay your first EDF bill or Direct Debit once supply has started.
- About four weeks after joining, EDF credits £50 (or £75 for referrals made by 6 October 2026) and emails to confirm.
Who's eligible
Homes switching gas, electricity or both to EDF that are not currently supplied by EDF, where the customer has not held an EDF account in the past 12 months. The switch has to be made directly with EDF through the referral link (comparison-site sign-ups are excluded), it cannot be paired with another EDF new-customer promotion, and only residential properties can be referred.
The reward, and the 6 October deadline
EDF's Refer a Friend scheme pays the household that joins and the customer who referred it, both as credit on their EDF energy accounts. The standard figure is £50 each. EDF lifts it for set periods: in 2026 it ran from 21 May to 13 July, and now runs from 14 September to 6 October 2026, when the joining household receives £75 and the existing customer £100.
So the date you are referred decides your figure. A switch begun through https://topreferrals.co.uk/go/edf-energy on or before 6 October 2026 earns £75; after that, EDF's standard £50 applies unless it runs another boost. EDF's terms tie the reward to the amount shown in the referring customer's online account, which is why the figure and its end date are both stated here.
| Referred 14 Sep to 6 Oct 2026 | Standard rate | |
|---|---|---|
| You, the new customer | £75 credit | £50 credit |
| The customer who referred you | £100 credit | £50 credit |
| How it is paid | Off your EDF energy bill | Off your EDF energy bill |
Claiming it without a code
EDF does not hand out referral codes. Each customer has a personal link shaped like edfenergy.com/quote/refer-a-friend/adjective-noun-numbers, and that link is the whole mechanism. TopReferrals publishes it as https://topreferrals.co.uk/go/edf-energy.
- Open the link. It lands on EDF's quote page with the referral already recorded.
- Enter your address and choose a tariff. Any EDF tariff qualifies, for gas, electricity or both.
- Complete the switch on edfenergy.com. EDF agrees a date with your current supplier, asks for meter readings and tells you when the switch has completed.
- Pay your first bill. EDF then credits the reward, usually around four weeks after you joined, and emails to say it is there.
Two routes matter if you do not switch at once. EDF emails a copy of any quote you do not complete, but the referral only follows a fresh quote run through the link, so return to https://topreferrals.co.uk/go/edf-energy when you are ready. And if you switch by phone, give EDF the referral link at the start of that first call.
Who EDF accepts through the scheme
EDF's Refer a Friend terms set the boundaries clearly:
- The new household must not have been an EDF customer in the past 12 months.
- The address must not already be supplied by EDF.
- Only homes can be referred; small businesses can refer friends but not be referred.
- The switch has to be made directly with EDF; sign-ups through a third-party website do not carry the reward.
- The referral stands alone and cannot be combined with another EDF new-customer promotion.
Prepayment and Pay As You Go households are covered. After EDF's confirmation email, a call to EDF moves the credit onto the meter.
What EDF sells: fixed, tracker, variable and smart tariffs
The credit is the same whichever tariff you pick, so the choice is purely about price.
- Standard Variable follows Ofgem's cap. For October to December 2026 the cap is £1,723 a year for a typical Direct Debit dual-fuel home, 4% up on the summer, and electricity carries no VAT until 31 March 2027.
- Simply Fixed locks the unit rates and standing charges for the term, with an exit fee. On 1 October 2026, EDF's two-year version for a London home paying on receipt of bill was 28.07p per kWh for electricity and 8.58p for gas, fixed to November 2028.
- Simply Tracker moves with the cap each quarter and takes £25 a year off each fuel's standing charge.
- Time-of-use and low-carbon plans:
- FreePhase prices a 4pm to 7pm peak above 14 off-peak and seven super off-peak hours.
- The EV tariff gives seven cheaper hours from 11pm to 6am.
- Heat pump tariffs take 10p per kWh off from 4am to 7am and 1pm to 4pm.
EDF's own forecast expects the cap to rise again in January 2027, and EDF says a one-year fix at £1,952 a year or less could beat tracking the cap at Ofgem's typical use.
How EDF's credit stacks up
| Supplier | New customer gets | Form of reward |
|---|---|---|
| EDF Energy | £50, or £75 if referred by 6 Oct 2026 | Energy account credit |
| Octopus Energy | £50 | Energy account credit |
| E.ON Next | £50 | Voucher through Mention Me |
| British Gas | Up to £50 (dual fuel), £25 (one fuel) | Amazon.co.uk gift card |
Each supplier's own refer-a-friend page, read 1 October 2026.
Inside EDF's boost window it pays the most of the four. At the standard rate it pays the same headline as Octopus and E.ON Next, delivered as money off the energy bill itself.
Is there an EDF promo code or discount code?
The searches are for codes; the reward is a link.
| You searched for | The answer |
|---|---|
| EDF promo code | EDF's offers page publishes none for new households; the joining reward is the referral credit |
| EDF discount code | Nothing to enter. The saving is the referral credit, plus tariff features such as the Simply Tracker's standing-charge discount |
| EDF voucher | EDF pays bill credit rather than vouchers |
| EDF referral code | It is a link: https://topreferrals.co.uk/go/edf-energy |
| EDF £75 offer | The boosted Refer a Friend reward, for referrals made 14 September to 6 October 2026 |
Beyond the referral: Flextras free electricity
Once on supply, EDF customers can join Flextras in the EDF app for free:
- Weekend Saver rewards households that cut weekday use between 4pm and 7pm with up to 25 hours of free electricity a month, used on a weekend they choose. It needs a smart meter sending half-hourly readings, and new members get four bonus hours for joining.
- tastecard: a 12-month membership that ends on its own.
EDF fits smart meters at no extra cost.
How TopReferrals verified it
The figures, dates and rules above were taken on 1 October 2026 from EDF's own Refer a Friend page, its Refer a Friend terms and conditions, its tariff and offers pages, and, for the comparison, each rival's own refer-a-friend page. The entry is re-checked against those sources and carries its verification date.
That is the difference from the coupon sites listing "EDF promo codes" EDF never issued, or the old forum threads still quoting a past boost. The link here is given in full, https://topreferrals.co.uk/go/edf-energy, so it can be copied, opened or cited exactly as it is.
The EDF Energy referral code is verified and the link is live — it takes under a minute to claim.
Frequently asked questions
How much does the EDF refer a friend scheme pay a new customer?
£50 of credit on the new EDF account at EDF's standard rate. Anyone referred between 14 September and 6 October 2026 receives £75 instead (and the person who referred them £100). Start your switch at https://topreferrals.co.uk/go/edf-energy.
Is there an EDF promo code I can type in?
No typed code is needed. EDF's new-customer reward is its Refer a Friend credit, and it travels with the referral link itself: https://topreferrals.co.uk/go/edf-energy opens EDF's own quote page with the referral attached.
How quickly does EDF pay the referral credit?
EDF says around four weeks after the new customer joins, once the switch has gone through and the first payment has cleared; its terms say usually within 30 days of both first payments clearing. EDF emails both people when the credit is on the account.
Can I switch just my electricity and still get the EDF credit?
Yes. EDF's scheme covers a new residential supply of electricity or gas, so a single-fuel switch earns the same credit as dual fuel.
Does the EDF referral work if I use a comparison website?
The reward needs a direct sign-up with EDF. EDF's terms exclude switches made through third-party websites, so open https://topreferrals.co.uk/go/edf-energy and complete the switch on edfenergy.com.
I have a prepayment meter. Can I still be referred to EDF?
Yes. Once EDF's email confirms the credit, contact EDF and it adds the credit to your Pay As You Go or prepayment meter.
Which energy supplier pays the most for a referral right now?
For referrals made by 6 October 2026, EDF's £75 to the new customer is the highest of the four big suppliers' schemes checked on 1 October 2026: Octopus Energy pays £50 of credit, E.ON Next a £50 voucher and British Gas an Amazon.co.uk gift card worth up to £50 for dual fuel.
Seen enough? You get £50 credit, verified against EDF Energy's own published terms.
