A new Prime member gets a month of the full membership without paying: 30 days of unlimited One-Day Delivery, Prime Video, Prime-only deals and the rest, after which it rolls onto £8.99 a month or £95 a year. Anyone taking out Prime as a new member on an Amazon.co.uk account with a valid credit card. The six-month version is for students at a UK or Irish higher-education institution and for anyone aged 18 to 24 who can prove their age.

What the free time is worth

The under-25 and student route, in detail
Amazon's help page for Prime for Students and 18-24 year-olds sets out who qualifies and for how long:
- Students enrolled at a higher-education institution in the UK or the Republic of Ireland, signing up with an academic email address or through Amazon's alternative route, and able to prove enrolment if asked. The half-price rate lasts while you remain a student, up to four years.
- Anyone aged 18 to 24, who uploads a driving licence or passport. The half-price rate lasts until the 25th birthday.
Across both routes the discounted membership lasts six years at most, then becomes regular Prime. During the six free months three things differ from standard Prime, Amazon says: household sharing is off, the Twitch benefit is a single one-month channel subscription, and the Kindle Owners' Lending Library is not included.
Who gets the most from it
For anyone who qualifies, the six-month version means half a year of delivery, video and deals free, then Amazon's 50% student and under-25 rate. For everyone else, the month is most useful when it lines up with a planned spend — a house move, a birthday, one of Amazon's Prime-only sale events — because unlimited One-Day Delivery and member-only prices apply across that shop.

Is there an Amazon Prime code?
People search for "Amazon Prime promo code", "Prime discount code" and "Prime voucher". None of these exists as a code. The free period is Amazon's own new-member offer and is applied on its sign-up screen; the only price difference Amazon publishes is the annual plan (£95 rather than £107.88 for twelve months) and the student and under-25 rate.

What Prime does not include
Three Amazon subscriptions sit outside Prime and carry their own free trials: Audible (audiobooks, 30 days free), Kindle Unlimited (eBooks, 30 days free, then £9.49 a month) and Amazon Music Unlimited (the full music catalogue, which costs Prime members £11.99 a month instead of £12.99). Prime itself brings the smaller Prime Reading shelf and Amazon Music Prime. A new Prime member who then starts Audible gets Audible's Prime extra: two free titles in the first month instead of one.
Timing the free month
Because the reward is a fixed 30 days, when you start it matters. The free period covers every order placed inside it, so it pays to begin it just before a planned run of shopping: moving house, stocking up for a new baby, a birthday, or one of Amazon's Prime-only sale events, which only members can shop. For the student and under-25 plan the question is less pressing: six months is long enough to cover a whole term.
Stopping before you pay
Renewal can be turned off at any time in Your Account, and doing so before the free period ends means nothing is charged. Amazon's Prime Terms add that a paid period is refunded in full if nobody used any Prime benefit during it.
