Is the Lime referral code worth it in 2026?

Lime is the referral we recommend when someone cannot tell us where or when they will ride. It is not the biggest reward in the category and it is not the widest-reaching, but it is the one with the fewest ways to waste it.

£4 that covers a whole ride

Lime issues the reward as a single-ride coupon, and the mechanics are more generous than the number suggests. The coupon applies to one ride: if that ride costs under £4 it is free outright, and if it costs more you pay only the difference.

Crucially, it covers the ride including the unlock fee. Forest's £10 does not — that credit applies to per-minute charges only, and the £1 unlock is still billed on every trip. So on a short hop, Lime's £4 can genuinely cost you nothing, while Forest's larger credit still leaves an unlock charge on the bill.

The 60-day window is the real advantage

This is where Lime separates itself. The coupon lasts 60 days from sign-up. Forest's credit expires in seven. Voi publishes no universal expiry but pays far less.

Seven days is a deadline you have to plan around. Sixty days is long enough that you will get to it when the weather is decent and you happen to be going somewhere. For anyone claiming an offer speculatively rather than for a specific journey, that difference matters more than the few pounds between the two rewards.

Coverage: the most cities of the three

Lime runs in London, Greater Manchester, Oxford, Nottingham and Milton Keynes, and adds seven West Midlands cities from 1 April 2026. That is the strongest big-city footprint of any operator we cover.

Forest is London and nothing else. Voi has the broadest total reach but concentrates on smaller trial towns. So Lime is the pick for anyone in a major English city outside the capital — and a reasonable pick inside it too, where all three compete.

The rules around the vehicles

A rental e-scooter needs a rider aged 18 or over with a provisional UK driving licence carrying category Q entitlement — the Department for Transport trial requirement, not a Lime rule. Lime's e-bikes need no licence and follow standard UK pedal-cycle rules, so they are open to more people.

When another offer beats it

Two cases. If you ride exclusively in central London and know you will be on a bike this week, Forest's £10 is simply more money and worth the tighter deadline. If Lime does not operate in your town at all, Voi almost certainly does, and £2.50 you can spend beats £4 you cannot.
