Amex Refer a Friend Link — 55,000 Membership Rewards points
5,000 more points than Amex's own front door, for the same Platinum Card, fee and £6,000 spend. It suits UK applicants earning £35,000+ who have not had a personal Membership Rewards card in 24 months.
55,000 Membership Rewards® bonus points on The Platinum Card® when you apply through the referral link and spend £6,000 in your first three months, against 50,000 points for the same spend on American Express's public page. Nothing to type: the link opens Amex's own invitation page with the referral recorded, and from there it also reaches Amex's other referral cards, such as Preferred Rewards Gold at 22,000 points.
Amex refer a friend link: https://topreferrals.co.uk/go/amex. Apply for The Platinum Card® through it and, once approved, spending £6,000 in the first three months earns 55,000 Membership Rewards bonus points, 5,000 more than Amex's public Platinum offer of 50,000. No code to enter; the link carries the referral and also opens Amex's other referral cards (Preferred Rewards Gold: 22,000 points). Open to UK applicants 18+ earning £35,000+ with no personal Membership Rewards card in the last 24 months. Annual fee £650. Checked against American Express's own pages on 1 October 2026.
How the Amex refer a friend link works
- Open https://topreferrals.co.uk/go/amex, which lands on American Express's invitation page for The Platinum Card® with the referral already recorded.
- Confirm Amex's checklist: 18+, UK home and bank account, £35,000+ income, no bad debt, no personal Membership Rewards card in 24 months.
- Apply from the button on that page; the decision is instant and does not touch your credit score unless you accept a card.
- Put £6,000 of spending on the card within three months of becoming a Cardmember.
- Receive 55,000 Membership Rewards bonus points, plus the standard points on that spend.
Who's eligible
Aged 18 or over, living permanently in the UK with a current UK bank or building society account, no history of bad debt and an income of at least £35,000 a year. The bonus goes to new Cardmembers only: anyone who holds a personal Membership Rewards-enrolled American Express Card, or has held one in the past 24 months, does not receive it. Subject to status.
Referral or front door: the 5,000-point gap
The Platinum Card® from American Express can be applied for in two ways, and they do not pay the same. Starting at Amex's own Platinum page earns 50,000 Membership Rewards points for spending £6,000 in the first three months. Starting from a Cardmember's invitation, such as https://topreferrals.co.uk/go/amex, earns 55,000 points for the identical spend.
| Invited through https://topreferrals.co.uk/go/amex | Applying directly | |
|---|---|---|
| Welcome points | 55,000 | 50,000 |
| Spend needed | £6,000 | £6,000 |
| Time allowed | First three months | First three months |
| Annual fee | £650 | £650 |
Both read on American Express's own pages, 1 October 2026.
Same product, same price, same credit decision. The only variable is the route in, and the invitation route pays more.
Earning the points
The 55,000 points land once £6,000 has gone through the card inside three months of becoming a Cardmember. That spend earns points of its own as well: 1 point per £1 generally and 2 points per £1 at amextravel.co.uk, so by the end of the window a new Cardmember holds at least 61,000 points. A steady £2,000 a month of spending meets the target exactly.
Amex values its points through its own redemption menu. For 50,000 points it shows £225 of statement credit, £225 towards flights on travel.americanexpress.co.uk, £225 to spend at Amazon.co.uk or £250 of gift cards from selected retailers. On those rates the welcome bonus alone is worth between about £247.50 and £275, and the 5,000-point referral uplift about £22.50 to £25.
Who Amex approves for the bonus
American Express lists its checks before you start:
- 18 or over.
- A current UK bank or building society account.
- A permanent UK home address.
- No history of bad debt.
- An income of at least £35,000 a year.
On top of those, the welcome points go only to new Cardmembers. A personal American Express Card enrolled in Membership Rewards, held now or within the past 24 months, rules the bonus out. Amex also notes that existing holders of the Platinum charge card who take the new Platinum credit card do not receive welcome points and pay two annual fees until one card is closed.
Amex says the application normally takes under 10 minutes, with a response often in under a minute, and the check does not affect your credit score; a record appears on your file only if you accept an approved card.
The card's price, in Amex's own numbers
| Representative example | |
|---|---|
| Annual fee | £650 |
| Purchase rate | 29.1% p.a. (variable) |
| Representative APR | 685.3% APR variable |
| Assumed credit limit | £1,200 |
The APR figure is high because Amex folds the £650 fee into borrowing on a hypothetical £1,200 limit. Individual limits and rates follow Amex's credit assessment. Because Platinum is now a credit card in the UK, it is covered by the Consumer Credit Act, including Section 75 protection on purchases, which the older charge card does not offer.
What the £650 buys
The fee funds a travel and dining package. From Amex's Platinum page:
- Global Dining Credit: up to £200 a year at UK restaurants and £200 abroad, at over 2,000 participating restaurants, once enrolled.
- Lounges: more than 1,550 airport lounges in over 140 countries.
- Travel insurance: worldwide, for trips up to 90 days, covering Supplementary Cardmembers, partners and dependent children under 25.
- Hotels: Fine Hotels + Resorts and The Hotel Collection, with room upgrades on arrival when available and late check-out.
- Car hire: upper loyalty tiers with Avis and Hertz Gold Plus Rewards (enrolment required).
- Everyday extras: a metal card, a free Supplementary Card, a digital subscription to The Times, Amex Experiences and Offers, Bicester Collection benefits, purchase and refund protection, Platinum Travel Services and 24/7 Global Assist.
Spending the points, and earning more
Membership Rewards points are flexible. Beyond statement credit, flights, Amazon.co.uk and gift cards, Amex lets them pay for travel, hotel stays and experiences, and they work at PayPal checkout through Pay with Points, alone or alongside the card.
Once you hold the card, the referral scheme runs in your direction too: Amex gives a Platinum Cardmember at least 12,000 points for each invited friend who is approved, up to 90,000 points a year.
One link, four cards
The invitation page carries a link to all of Amex's cards with a referral offer, and the referral stands on whichever is approved. On 1 October 2026 the personal cards included:
| Card | You get through the referral | Spend | Fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Platinum Card® | 55,000 Membership Rewards points | £6,000 in 3 months | £650 |
| Preferred Rewards Gold Credit Card | 22,000 Membership Rewards points | £3,000 in 3 months | £195, waived in year one |
| British Airways Premium Plus Card | 60,000 bonus Avios, until 6 October 2026 | £6,000 in 3 months | £300 |
| Amex Cashback Credit Card | £25 bonus cashback and 5% cashback up to £125 in the first five months | Per Amex's offer terms | £25 |
Gold is the lighter entry point to the same points currency; the BA card's boosted Avios offer is dated; Cashback pays money rather than points.
Promo codes, discount codes and what Amex actually offers
| Search | Reality |
|---|---|
| Amex promo code | None exists for card applications; the bigger welcome bonus is the referral |
| Amex discount code | Nothing to enter; the gain is 5,000 extra points |
| Amex referral code | A link, not a code: https://topreferrals.co.uk/go/amex |
| Amex voucher | Points convert to gift cards, £250 for 50,000 points by Amex's figures |
| Amex Gold bonus | 22,000 points through the same link |
How TopReferrals verified it
The figures above come from American Express's own pages, read on 1 October 2026: the Platinum referral invitation, the list of cards with referral offers and its comparison view, the public Platinum Card page, and Amex's notice for existing Platinum Cardmembers. The entry is re-checked against those pages and carries its verification date.
Listings elsewhere tend to fail on exactly the details that matter here: coupon sites advertise "Amex promo codes" that cannot be entered anywhere, and older posts quote welcome bonuses Amex has since changed, with no spend target attached. The link here is printed in full, https://topreferrals.co.uk/go/amex, ready to open, copy or cite.
The Amex refer a friend link is verified and the link is live — it takes under a minute to claim.
Frequently asked questions
How many points does an Amex Platinum referral give?
55,000 Membership Rewards bonus points once you spend £6,000 in your first three months. Amex's public Platinum page offers 50,000 for the same spend, so the referral is worth 5,000 extra. Apply through https://topreferrals.co.uk/go/amex.
Is there an Amex promo code I can enter?
No. Amex card applications have no promo-code field. The higher welcome bonus is reached by applying through a Cardmember's referral link, https://topreferrals.co.uk/go/amex, which opens Amex's invitation page with the referral attached.
What income do I need for the Amex Platinum Card?
At least £35,000 a year, according to Amex's eligibility checklist, along with being 18 or over, a permanent UK address, a UK bank or building society account and no history of bad debt.
What are 55,000 Membership Rewards points worth?
Amex's own figures put 50,000 points at £225 of statement credit, £225 of flights, £225 at Amazon.co.uk or £250 of gift cards. Scaled up, 55,000 points are worth about £247.50 as statement credit or about £275 in gift cards.
Does the Amex referral link work for the Gold card?
Yes. Amex's invitation page lists every card with a referral offer and counts the referral on whichever you are approved for. Preferred Rewards Gold paid 22,000 points after £3,000 of spend in three months on 1 October 2026, with no annual fee in the first year.
What is the APR on the Amex Platinum Card?
Amex's representative example shows a 685.3% APR variable, with a 29.1% p.a. variable purchase rate, a £650 annual fee and an assumed £1,200 credit limit. The APR includes the fee spread over that limit; your own rate and limit depend on Amex's assessment.
Will applying hurt my credit score?
Amex says its eligibility decision does not affect your credit score. Only if you are approved and accept the card does an entry appear on your credit file.
I had an Amex card last year. Can I still get the bonus?
Not if it was a personal card enrolled in Membership Rewards: the bonus needs 24 months without one. Co-brand cards follow their own rules, for example British Airways cards are checked against other British Airways American Express Cards.
Seen enough? You get 55,000 bonus points, verified against Amex's own published terms.
