What a newsletter costs on beehiiv

beehiiv bills in US dollars and sets the price by the size of your list. The pricing page, read on the date at the top of this page, shows:

Yearly prices are the monthly equivalent of a plan paid for the year, which beehiiv says saves up to 20%. Lite stops at 100,000 subscribers; Pro continues to 250,000, and Enterprise is quoted by beehiiv's sales team. Below 2,500 subscribers, the Free plan costs nothing at all.

Free, Lite or Pro: picking the tier

Free is a complete publishing setup: newsletter, website and podcast, unlimited sends, custom domains, link-in-bio, an AI website builder, campaign analytics and a place in the recommendation network. Many writers stay here until the list is worth monetising.

Lite is the earning tier. It switches on paid subscriptions at a 0% take rate, the beehiiv Ad Network, paid recommendations, digital products, community spaces, automations, polls and A/B tests, with two team seats, three publications and a year of analytics history.

Pro is for operators. It removes beehiiv branding from your emails and site, adds a sponsorship storefront, audio newsletters, webinars, dynamic content, RSS-to-send and the Send API, and lifts the limits to ten publications and ten seats with priority support around the clock.

Enterprise brings SSO, dedicated sending IPs, a customer success manager and concierge onboarding.

Where the money comes from

beehiiv's pitch is that a newsletter should pay for itself, and it builds four income lines into the product:

• Paid subscriptions. beehiiv takes 0%; Stripe's 2.9% + $0.30 per payment is the only deduction.
• The Ad Network. Brands buy placements in your issues on any paid plan; beehiiv's pricing page quotes an average of $39 a month in ad income.
• Recommendations. Get paid for each verified subscriber you send to another newsletter, or pay to recruit readers for your own. beehiiv counts 15 million+ subscriptions created this way.
• Digital products. Sell products from your beehiiv site (and, on Pro, bookable appointments), again with 0% taken by beehiiv.

beehiiv sizes the move from Substack at about 42 minutes, start to finish, and its calculator shows a writer with 2,000 paid subscribers at $5 a month earning $11,652 more a year after leaving.

Your list stays yours

beehiiv's newsletter page makes a point other platforms rarely put in writing: you can export your subscribers at any time. It also connects to Stripe, Zapier, Google Analytics, Linktree and hundreds of other tools, so payments, automations and reporting slot into what you already run. That matters on day one, when you import a list, and years later, when the list is the business.

The company behind it

beehiiv was set up in 2021 by Tyler Denk, Benjamin Hargett and Jacob Hurd, who worked at Morning Brew while it grew into a media business.
