The drink side is broader than most people expect — coffee, tea, hot chocolate, matcha, chai and iced drinks, with dairy-free milk alternatives at no extra charge, which is unusual enough to be worth naming since most chains treat oat milk as a surcharge. It does not extend to pre-packaged drinks, extra espresso shots, whipped cream or other modifiers.
The condition that changes how you use it
GAIL's own wording, from the referee terms:
"This voucher is valid only when redeemed alongside a paid transaction as part of your first order at GAIL's."
So this is a discount on a first order, not a walk-in freebie. Buy a pastry, take the coffee free. Buy a coffee, take the loaf free. What does not work is arriving with the voucher and spending nothing — and finding that out at the counter is a worse experience than reading it here.

What the inviter gets, and why this programme stays small
The other side of a GAIL's referral is a complimentary loaf voucher, issued within four hours of the new member's first paid transaction — and it is capped hard: one free loaf per day regardless of how many friends buy that day, and a maximum of five referrals per calendar month.
Three caps on a modest reward. That is a deliberate design: GAIL's built a programme to nudge regulars along, not one that can be farmed. It is also why bakery codes do not carpet the coupon sites the way fintech codes do.
The two rewards that outlast the welcome voucher
The voucher is a one-off. These repeat:
The stamp card. Every transaction earns one stamp — in a bakery, on the website or through the app — and any single spend above £20 earns a second. Nine stamps earns one 650g sourdough loaf or a regular barista-made drink, then resets. Three mechanics catch people out:
- Buy again inside 15 minutes of a stamped purchase and the second earns nothing; that is an anti-fraud rule, not a glitch.
- Checking out as a guest is invisible to the programme — sign in with the email your loyalty account uses.
- Ordering through Deliveroo still counts, provided your GAIL's Loyalty ID goes in at checkout.
- A missed scan can be claimed for 30 days afterwards, but only against a receipt.
The birthday treat. GAIL's describes this one as covering "your choice of one sweet treat from the 'Baker's Table' with any paid transaction", redeemable within 30 days — half the window the welcome voucher gets. It needs your date of birth on the account, so fill that field in at sign-up.
